Adoption event report ☆ at GREENDOG on Dec. 23rd (Mon)

Merry Christmas☆
You may have already seen on Facebook. There was a heart-warming re-homing yesterday on Christmas Eve.

The day before Christmas Eve, we held the last adoption event for the year at GREENDOG in Kobe. It was the last day of a long weekend so we expected fewer visitors than usual. However, in the end, we found this event very fruitful with a lot of discoveries about our animals☆
Dogs are in Christmas clothes for this blog

On behalf of the small dogs, we brought the buddies, Nicchimo and Sacchimo.
They came from the same place but that doesn’t really explain why they are always together.
Nicchimo loves to be held by people and enjoys sitting on laps. Then suddenly Sacchimo comes out of nowhere and lies over his buddy.
They are asleep in that position.
They are really close to each other so we want to find one home for both of them. That’s the reason why they are still here at ARK today. On that day, 3 potential owners came to see dachshunds but none of them would pick up both. It might not be easy for people to have 2 dogs at once even though they are small…

We brought another small dog, Shaoron, the loner.
We assume he is a pure Chihuahua although people usually think that he must be a mix of Chihuahua and another breed since he weighs about 5 kg. He actually loves people but he is timid so he barks at first if he feels afraid of someone. When we saw him during the event, he seemed to love women so he came close to ladies voluntarily.
He seems to be afraid of men with a low tone voice. Also, he may be afraid of old ladies. Such behavior might come from his background at the former home.
His participation in this event was fruitful for us all since we learned that he should be adopted by a family which consists of women only or by a woman who lives on her own.

On behalf of the mushroom brothers and sister, Nameko and Matsutake joined the event.
Nameko was nervous while visitors were at the venue. A woman played with her and petted her for a while. She said Nameko looked like her former dog so she decided to come to Nose with her family at a later date. We wish her a loving home with that lady♪

Meanwhile, Matsutake, who loves to eat, obviously enjoyed the event much more than Nameko did. He was always with Aja during the event.
A family was interested in him so he may be adopted very soon♪

Representing the 34 dogs from the mountain, Aja participated in the event for the first time.
She is not the type of dog who easily wins people’s attention.
Before the event, we assumed that she would hide under a table during the event since the staff who always took care of her could not come that day. However, Aja came to greet every visitor and more than that, she asked visitors for affection and ate food. That was a great surprise to us all
She voluntarily cuddled up to guests.

She had no problem with walking outside and she urinated during the walk (some dogs cannot urinate when they are too nervous). She would be one of dogs who could easily be introduced to potential owners.
She is nice to both dogs and cats. In the end, she slept with puppies like this.

On behalf of the cats, Persimmon, the healer, joined the event.
Cats normally get nervous when they come to a new environment but Persimmon was different. He slept in a visitor’s arms. A family really liked sweet Persimmon. He will get his own home if things go his way.

We would like to extend our appreciation for your participation in this last adoption event this year. We had a lot of visitors. Also, we would like to thank GREEN DOG SQUARE (sorry, JP only) which kindly offers us the venue for adoption events all the time!
We deeply appreciate your support and would like to ask you for continued support in the coming year again!

Brown Puppies! PART 2

We introduced the 5 brown puppies earlier this year.
It took time for Primo, the last one, to get to his forever home but thanks to your support, he now enjoys floor heating this cold winter with his own family. Good for you, Primo! We are happy that you found your own home before the cold winter comes to Nose.

And now, just before the New Year, we have 6 more new brown puppies.
They were born from a stray dog at a temple. The temple was located in the mountains. All the puppies had mange (skin disease). They looked like hairless dogs when they arrived.
They were about 2-month-old when rescued. They learned “to be alert” from their mother so they couldn’t eat while people were with them.

They had to spend their important phase for socialization in an isolation room. So they are learning socialization now, a bit late for puppies. Now they have beautiful skin and fur and show their individual characters. Please let us introduce them to you♪

He was such a cute puppy
 when he was rescued.
He is a handsome puppy now♪

Since they started learning socialization at a later time than most puppies, the staff sometimes takes them home. According to the staff who took Shiitake home, he slept with her at home
He is such a cute young dog with big paws. He comes to you immediately when you give him a treat. Yes, he loves to eat.

kinokoS2.jpg Matsutake

He was as cute as Shiitake when he came to ARK.
Now he has a beautiful coat
 and looks quite gorgeous♪

You may see Shiitake just in front of the camera…
Matsutake loves to eat, too. Puppies who love to eat are easy to train.
We actually failed to rescue Shiitake and Matsutake the first try. They were away from the den or hiding. Now they are so friendly they eagerly approach people.

He was the friendliest puppy at the time of rescue.
Also, he was the only one who ate food
right after he got to ARK.

He is so curious that he watched TV with the staff when he was taken to the staff’s home.
He is still shy to hands but we will work hard to let him know that “human hands” = “good things”!

She is the only girl among siblings.
She tried to go deep inside a little space
she found at the time of rescue…

The picture was taken by a staff member at home.
She still gets frightened easily but she seems relaxed when dogs are around her.
She loves toys! She stayed at the staff’s house for just two days. However, during those two days, she showed her happy face little by little although she was totally shy to people before. That change won the heart of the staff♪ As we have told you again and again, one of the most gratifying things is to see a once shy puppy become happy and no longer afraid.

We also have Eringi and Enoki, who are still very shy, so we will introduce them at another time.
They were named after mushrooms: let’s hope mushroom brothers & sister find loving homes soon!

Foster Family’s Diary: Nefertiti in Tokyo

Several times in this blog we have written about the 34 dogs from the mountains.
They couldn’t even enjoy going on a walk when they first arrived at ARK. They have been learning many things since then to be ready to become “a member of a family”.

In October, three of the friendly male dogs were adopted one after another. We expected that the other dogs would be adopted very quickly as well. However, the other 31 dogs are still at ARK today.
So, we decided to send Nefetiti, the friendliest dog among females (introduced once in this article), to Tokyo to find her forever home!

So today, we would like to share with you a letter from the foster family♪

★Day 6 in Tokyo★

Dear all!
I’m Nefe, one of the dogs from the mountains!

I came to Osaka ARK in May and now I’m in Tokyo on behalf of the 34 dogs. I participated in an adoption event in Jingumae on Nov. 24th. Because I am still nervous, I still have trouble with eating and with elimination. In most cases I just freeze so it isn’t such a problem for you!
Anyway, everything is new to me! I am learning a lot everyday!

My position for tonight is at the entrance of the kitchen where I can see the family members.

I’m a good girl so I can wait on the floor while they have meals.

★Day 7 in Tokyo★

It seems the rules are different here than in the mountains.
The bosses of this family are 6-month-old kittens from ARK!! They are small but they do anything they want whenever they want!
Ah, and they have another dog, which is huge in size but very calm in nature. I was scared a bit at first, though I am totally ok with him.

Those cats thought I was a toy the first night I was here.

I think the cats are watching me… they stare at me all the time!

Typical borzoi-jumps are bit scary to me though…

I found a house with beautiful lighting. I’m working hard so I can participate in the next adoption event on Dec. 15th. I’m looking forward to seeing you!

★Day 11 in Tokyo★

More than 10 days have been passed since Nefe came to Tokyo.
She is still frightened by many things but has less trouble with elimination.
It is hard to feed her since she seems reluctant to eat by choice.
This morning, we found her eating the cats’ food! Last night, our daughter found her trying to pull a pack of meat down off the table and had to teach her some discipline!!

Nefe stays on tiles to keep her belly cool. She does this maybe because it is warmer here than in the mountains. She started playing with toys. What she enjoyed the most was plain clothes! I thought I would make her a cushion and I brought some material to the floor. Then, Nefe came to me and made a “nest” in the material and enjoyed rubbing her whole body against the old clothes! I see, she prefers plain clothes to cushions or beds! I will sew up the edges and make her a simple mat!

Little by little, she behaves naturally and has started growling at the kittens when they come into her space. It is a good thing that she can be herself but now it is also an important time to teach her discipline so I need to harden my heart in a good way.

One problem… our family dog fell sick so Nefe sleeps in another room as of 2 days ago.
She is the type of girl who loves to stay with people though she quietly sleeps in her favorite house.
…Rather, she snores!

Nefe, which one do you like?

This one!

Let’s play together!

I do love to be with people!

What an adorable dog she is
Being fostered, we can see new things about her which we couldn’t see at the shelter. That means it helps us a lot when we explain about her character to potential owners.
Thank you very much, foster families!!

At Tokyo ARK, foster families are welcomed all the time.
How about “fostering an animal”?

Adoption event report ☆ at GREENDOG on Nov. 24th (Sun).

As usual, we held an adoption event at GREENDOG in Kobe on Nov. 24th (Sun).
Four dogs and 2 cats took part in the event. Once again, we gained new understandings about our animals!

Please let us tell you first about the cats. We brought two brothers who are always together: Azu and Blanco. They are super-friendly to people and didn’t care at all that they were in Kobe and not at ARK. They were totally relaxed during the event. They ate food and played with toys. They will get used to your home without any big problem when they are adopted.
CIMG4652.jpg CIMG4653.jpg
You love each other that much…kiss, kiss….
Looking at the brothers, one of the visitors said that they were so close to each other that he wanted to adopt them together. Please come to Nose and see other cats since we have many cats who have their own buddies!

Now, let’s move to the dogs.
On behalf of old dogs, Sachi joined the event.
She’d lived inside a house until recently. She has a beautiful coat and is healthy. You won’t believe that she is 12 years old. She had a round body when she came to ARK but then she lost weight because she missed people so much. She kept whimpering and couldn’t relax at all.
We don’t want her to loose any more weight. At the event, she was the first one who welcomed visitors. She enjoyed the affection of every visitor. She seemed so happy.
Of course, she didn’t urinate at the venue since she’d lived in a house before.
CIMG4639.jpg CIMG4634.jpg
Once we saw her behaving like this, we don’t want to keep her at the kennel in ARK…
Please wish her a forever home as soon as possible!

We brought small-sized dogs as well: Sacchimo, a dachshund joined.
He is so friendly to people that he joined the event after only being at ARK 5 days.
Like a typical dachshund, he enjoyed the event without showing any hesitation to people or dogs. He mounted a dog who was several times bigger than him, and the dog got mad at him, but he didn’t care about it at all! We put a manner-belt on him just in case though the band remained clean throughout the event.
As you may have guessed, “Sacchimo” has his buddy, “Nicchimo”. Nicchimo didn’t join the event because he becomes nervous around strangers and barks just for the first several seconds. They are very close to each other so please come to see them at ARK.

Again, from the 34 dogs from the mountain, or “OYM34”, as named by one of the foster families in Tokyo, Leonidas, the boss, and Ophelia, the sweet girl, joined the event.
Please look! They love each other very much! Or, is it a one-way love of Ophelia?

Leonidas is indeed a nice guy; he is a sort of guy who is gentle and strong.
He walked in a crowded area without any hesitation and enjoyed the event by showing his belly to strangers. He is like a therapy dog since people feel comfort while they pet him.
CIMG4663.jpg CIMG4578.jpg
He didn’t urinate at the venue. We imagine that he would be a sweet boy once you live with him at home. However, it seems difficult to find a home for him since he is three-legged.
If you think about his legs in a different way, you don’t need to take him for a long walk because he will get tired. That could be easier for you. Nevertheless, having a 3-legged dog is not much different than having a 4-legged one. We hope he will find a loving home soon.

When it comes to Ophelia, she behaved just as usual, contrary to our expectations.
She walked outside with her tail up and she went to strangers and greeted to them during the event. We couldn’t believe such behavior because she usually barks at strangers at the fence when she is in her kennel.
CIMG46201.jpg CIMG4662.jpg
Maybe we should find her a home without any children. She tried to nip a small kid once. Anyway, we were surprised by her because she has changed a lot since coming to ARK.

To us, this event was fruitful because we deepened our understanding about their good sides.
The things we learned about them on that day will help us find their forever homes.
